How to Use Ghost

Your step-by-step guide to mastering the ultimate study tool and unlocking your full potential.

Set Up Your Brain (On the Web)

First, we need to teach Ghost what you know. This happens in the browser.

1. Create New Project

Go to the dashboard and create a new project. Give it a name like "Biology 101" or "Calc III Final."

2. Write the Instructions

Tell the AI exactly how you want it to behave. You can ask it to give short answers, step-by-step solutions, or even just hints.

3. Upload Your Notes (Optional)

Upload PDFs, images, or paste text to create a custom knowledge base for your brain. The AI will prioritize this information.

4. Copy Your Project ID

Once your project is ready, you'll need the unique Project ID to connect it to the desktop app.

Unleash the Ghost (On Your Desktop)

Now for the magic. Use the secret weapon on your Windows computer.

5. Configure the App

Open the Ghost desktop app, paste your Project ID, and log in. Ghost will now always use the brain you just created.

6. Capture Questions

Using your mouse, drag a box around the question you need help with. Capture buttons, images, or even math equations with ease.

7. Get the Answer

In seconds, the answer will appear in your invisible overlay. No switching tabs, no cursor movements. It's that simple.

8. Control the Overlay

Move or resize the overlay to fit your screen. Use hotkeys to toggle its visibility instantly if someone enters the room.

Chat with Your Ghost

For more complex problems, follow-up questions, or interactive study help, use the connected chat interface in your dashboard.

9. Open the Chat Window

Move back to the web dashboard and open the Chat tab. You'll see all your previous captures and AI responses here.

10. Add Context/Ask Follow-ups

Type directly to the AI for more help. Mention specific parts of the capture or ask for a deeper explanation of a concept.

11. Read and Adjust

Ghost provides context-aware answers. Read the AI's response and adjust your strategy based on the detailed breakdown.

12. Clear/Reset

Done with a set of questions? Clear the chat or reset your project to start fresh for your next subject or study session.

Master Your Hotkeys

These are your secret commands. Memorize them, stay hidden, and win.

Alt + C

Capture a region of your screen and send it to the AI brain for analysis.

Alt + T

Toggle the invisibility of the overlay for instant stealth.

Alt + S

Toggle the Settings menu to quickly adjust parameters.

H

Hide the Control Bar for a completely minimal view.

The Invisibility Cloak: How Ghost Stays Hidden

Ghost's most important feature is its stealth. Here's how it works.

Ghost uses specialized system-level API flags that tell Windows to exclude our application windows from any screen recording, capture, or remote sharing session. This means that while you see the overlay clearly on your monitor, any recording or streaming software (like ProctorU, Respondus, Honorlock, etc.) will see only your desktop and exam window.

Test the Stealth Yourself:

Install a screen recorder or use a video call (like Discord or Zoom).
Open Ghost and activate the overlay.
Look at the recording/shared stream—the Ghost window will be completely invisible.
